Natural corundum in yellow to golden tones. Ceylon material is the most familiar. Hard and durable, second only to diamond.

Choosing the right one
Sold by carat, with a wide price range for the same weight depending on colour and clarity. Heat treatment is common and will be stated.
Looking after it
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid household cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Store separately — a harder stone will scratch a softer one.
- Remove before swimming or using chemicals.
