What is Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN) astrology?

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi, or BNN, is a kind of Indian (Vedic) astrology that reads your birth chart from the signs the planets are in and how the planets sit next to each other, and that times life events mainly by where the slow planets, like Saturn and Jupiter, move after you are born.

What does the name mean?

The name has three parts. Bhrigu is a wise man (a sage) from old Indian tradition. Nandi is the companion of Lord Shiva. Nadi is a family of old Indian astrology methods.

How is BNN different from a newspaper horoscope?

A newspaper horoscope is the same for everyone born under one sign. BNN uses your own birth chart: where every planet was at the minute and place you were born. Two people born on the same day can get different answers.

What does a BNN reading look at?

Three simple things:

1. Where each planet was when you were born. There are twelve zodiac signs (in Hindi, rashi). Each planet sits in one of them.
2. What each planet stands for. One planet stands for work, another for marriage, and so on.
3. How the planets meet over time. The slow planets keep moving after you are born. When they reach the right spots in your chart, BNN reads that as a good time for the matching event.

So a BNN answer gives you a time window: the months that look right for what you asked.

Does BNN use the rising sign or "houses"?

Not the way we practise it. Many astrologers count twelve "houses" from the rising sign (the sign coming up in the east when you were born). BNN looks at the planets themselves and where they sit from each other. BNN and Parashari: what is different? explains the difference.

What can I ask?

Love and marriage, job and career, business and money, children, studies, going abroad, or home and property. One clear question works best, like: "When is a good time for me to change jobs in the next two years?"

What can a BNN reading not do?

It is guidance, not a promise. It is not medical, legal or money advice. Use it as one thing to think about, together with your own judgement.

How can I try it?

• Free, no sign-up: your birth chart. It also shows your Bhrigu Bindu sign.
• See how the slow planets move: Planets Transit and Sade Sati.
• A reading of your own chart: Astro Live (instant), an In-depth Answer, or a Personal Consultation. How a BNN reading works explains them.
