What it is
Natural corundum coloured red by chromium. Burmese and Mozambican material is most commonly seen; colour, clarity and cut vary widely between stones.

Choosing the right one

Looking after it
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid household cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Store separately — a harder stone will scratch a softer one.
- Remove before swimming or using chemicals.
